Which community do you live in? I live in Burlington, Ontario
How do you serve your community?
I am a yoga teacher who teaches to a variety of body types, varied mobility and abilities. From prenatal yoga to chair yoga each class addresses the individuals attending. I include meditation and skill development on the mat that can be taken off the mat into everyday life.
How did your prenatal yoga training help you? My prenatal yoga training taught me the anatomy of a pregnant woman as well as how to deal with muscle, and joint safety during a prenatal yoga practice. Learning to create a class from beginning to end, taking into account the uniqueness of a pregnant body and mind, safely and confidently while encouraging women to feel empowered and confident in their abilities are some of the biggest takeaways that I have been able to apply to in my classes. This training also provided me with the ability to modify yoga practices for all bodies.
What makes your classes special to those who attend? I bring a variety of yoga poses and meditation to each yoga class I teach. I listen closely to the challenges the students in my class express and I direct our attention to those areas. Creating practices that carry off the mat and into each yogi’s life.
Do you have a message for anyone who is considering taking Prenatal yoga training? Prenatal training is about more than physical poses. It is also about training yourself and the people in your life that you will care for yourself and students to ensure optimal health. Meeting other teachers, and creating a sense of community throughout the whole experience is important. To collect information, references and recommendations that you can take back to your own classes is invaluable.
Where do you teach? Days? Times?
I teach the prenatal classes at Be Yoga on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm and Saturday mornings at 8:30 am.
You can find me teaching chair yoga at various Burlington Libraries.
I teach a Community class at Christ’s Church Cathedral in Hamilton September to June on Tuesday evenings at 7pm.
I also offer private pre and postnatal classes, as well as private and group classes for people suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and those with chronic illness.
