What’s your name? Amy Cools
Which community do you live in? Niagara Region – I live in Welland Ontario
How do you serve your community? I teach yoga throughout the region – St. Catharines, Fort Erie and Niagara Falls. I do a variety of types of yoga class including prenatal.
How did your prenatal yoga training help you? Having two children myself, I had some experience with birth, but having this training made me feel comfortable in my knowledge, gave me more information, and helped me to better understand my role as a prenatal yoga instructor. Prenatal yoga is not just about the poses, it is about creating a safe space for women to share similar experiences during a very challenging time in their lives.
What makes your classes special to those who attend? I love the connection between breath and body in any practice I teach. During prenatal classes, the breath is so important to connect to as it assists in preparation and during labour. I plan my classes with this in mind. I also have an open heart, and love sharing in people’s experiences, especially in pregnancy, labour and after birth. One asset I do have is that I am an Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) and have worked with children from ages 0-6 for the past 10 years.
Do you have a message for anyone who is considering taking Prenatal yoga training? Angela and Sarah are so welcoming, open and honest. Learning from them has truly been wonderful. Most people believe that teaching prenatal yoga is scary. After gaining the knowledge I have, and having an open heart, it is one of my favourite classes to plan and teach! I love connecting with new Mom’s and helping to facilitate a class that provides a safe space to create bonds with other Mom’s going through a similar experience.
